Persuasion

Persuasion (Signet Classics)

I finished Persuasion this morning and loved it!  This is my fourth Austen novel and despite the fact that I really enjoyed it, it only places third since Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility have first and second place on my favorite Austens list and I doubt they can be moved.  I’m watching the new PBS adaptation of Persuasion right now, and I am quite enjoying Anthony Head (of Buffy fame) playing Sir Walter Elliot.

As the book club people already know, we are doing are own Jane Austen Book Club this year and I’m looking forward to finally reading all of the novels.  I am currently re-reading Sense and Sensibility since I have to finish it for class next Tuesday.

  1. I love this book, perhaps more than P&P (gasp). Most of the research I've done suggests that this is her most autobiographical book, and, in many ways, this is the desired outcome she had for her life. I seriously love the letter that Captain Wentworth writes Anne at the end. You should also check out the version with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root (I think that's her name) Her Anne is much better I think.Enjoy the continued Austin.

  2. I could see how this would be the most autobiographical of her life. I will def. check out that adaptation of Persuasion – I enjoy watching different versions of novels I've read.

  3. Emma. I didn't enjoy it as much. I think it might be because I had seen the movie and Clueless so I already knew what would happen (not that we don't know how all Jane Austen novels end). But I still liked it.
