I’ve decided to do the Everything Austen challenge. I’ve never done a book challenge before so I’m excited to give it a try. I’ve been planning on reading a few Austen-related books so this shouldn’t be too hard.
My Plan:
1. Re-read Pride and Prejudice. This time I’m going to read the annotated version. It’s been about 6 years since I first read P&P – I can’t wait to see how much I enjoy it the second time.
2. Read/Watch The Jane Austen Book Club. I was waiting until I had read all of her novels to read this one, and now that I’ve finished Northanger Abbey, it’s fair game.
3. Read The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen. Sense and Sensibility is (probably) my favorite of her novels, and this novel takes place while she is revising S&S. I picked it up awhile ago and just haven’t gotten to it yet.
4. Read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Because how can you not want to read this.
5. Watch Mansfield Park. I didn’t like the book very much, so I want to see if I can learn to like it through the movie.
6. Watch Bride and Prejudice. I know the last two are easy – just movies – but I’ve wanted to watch this one for a long time and I don’t know if I can handle 6 books on top of all my normal reading. 🙂
So there you go. I have to do all of these before December 31. This might just be the motivation I need for the second half of the year as far as reading goes.

I'm excited another RBC member is doing this :o) I believe you've seen my plan already, but I like yours as well. You have a lot of P&P stuff going on, which is fun. We have a mutual goal–reading P&P and Zombies–which I think would make for interesting discussion later. I liked that MP film version you have listed above–it was very good to get a person to like the story. Good luck!!

Mine is P&P heavy but it's hard not to be. Maybe we can try and read P&P&Zombies at the same time.Also, I read your post on MBS and it makes me want to go home and finish the 2nd book right now. 🙂

Yeah, we could try to read P&P & Zombies together. I am actually #59 on our ILL waiting list so it'll be awhile before I get it. Do you own it or have you borrowed it from the library? It might be hard to coincide them :o/
But I'm glad you like the MBS as much as I do :o)

There is also a surprisingly delightful mormon film version called Pride and Prejudice. It's set in modern times, and just a lot of fun. Also if you want to expand your horizon's with Austen related goodness that isn't twee I'd advise "Becoming Jane Austen" the book is fascinating with info and the movie, while good, only reflects a small part of it. Also "Pride, Prejudice and Jasmine Fields" is a fun modern take on the story. And the Jane Austen Mysteries are also very good, they reflect that the author really did some research into Austen's history and where she'd be and who she encountered. They're fun.P&P&Z was fun, and slightly revolting, and fun all at the same time. Enjoy it.

I had some time to kill yesterday so I bought P&P&Zombies as well as Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict (and a few other books).

I bought the complete and unabridged collection of Jane Austen a few months ago, because I have always wanted to read her books. I enjoy the movie adaptations of her books, and am hoping to love the books even more. After reading your blog, I am inspired to dive in! :o)

That is quite an exciting plan! 'Pride and Prejudice' is an evergreen favourite. I saw the movie version of 'Mansfield Park' sometime back and loved it! Have seen it many times since! I saw the movie version of 'The Jane Austen Book Club' and I liked it so much that I went and got the book and read it. I have to confess though that I liked the movie more. 'Bride and Prejudice' is an interesting movie too. BTW, you are featured in the homepage of Vox today! Have a wonderful time reading books Jane Austen!
