Read-a-Thon

I've decided to participate in this fall's 24-hour Read-a-Thon.  The Read-a-Thon begins on October 24th at 8am (in my time zone).  24 hours of reading books, updating my blog, reading other blogs, and doing mini-challenges.  When I first discovered this event, I was intrigued but not sure I wanted to participate.  Then I kept reading about how much fun everyone says it is.  I don't know how hardcore I'll be (it's been years since I've voluntarily pulled an all-nighter) but I'm definitely going to spend the majority of my day reading.

To make this even more special, and because it is October, for each book I finish, I will be donating $10 extra to my in-laws' 2010 Breast Cancer 3-Day fund (That was the link to my mother-in-law's, but for a laugh check out my father-in-law's page).

Here is my pile of books to choose from.  I will obviously not be getting through all of these.  Let's face it, I'll be lucky if I finish 3.  But I wanted to have some variety.  And I have a few books coming from the library as well.  And of course, I can always grab one of the other 300 books in my house that I haven't read.  I tried to pick shorter and/or easier books that would keep my attention.

Anyone else want to participate with me?

That should be so fun! 🙂
Although it's the one Saturday I'm not going to be working, it's the day of my aunt's big, huge party. And I'm guessing if I'm found in the corner with a book, that will be viewed as a declaration of war. 🙂
(Start with Catching Fire; it was awesome.)

Sounds like a fun idea! I so don't have the reading stamina for it though. Good luck with it! 🙂

That sounds like a lot of fun! Unfortunately, I have work on Saturdays so I cannot do it :o( I suppose I could postpone it a day and do it Sunday though. But do you really have to stay awake for 24 hours? I cannot stay awake that long–do you think it would be okay if I read for all of my waking hours?

This sounds wonderful! October 24th is just a couple of weeks away! I think I can join you in the read-a-thon during waking hours and continue reading till late 🙂 Don't know whether I can put a 24-hour read-a-thon though. Haven't done an all-nighter in years.
Your book list for the read-a-thon looks interesting! Which is the Hemingway book that is there on your list? Am not able to read the title from the picture. Looking at the clues offered by the picture, it looks like 'The Garden of Eden' to me. Is that true?
All the best for your read-a-thon!

I probably will start with Catching Fire. I don't know if I even have the will power to wait until the 24th to read it.

Yes. I doubt I will stay up all night. You should try doing whatever you can. 🙂

Yay – I hope you do join me. 🙂 I don't think I can stay up all night either. The Hemingway is The Garden of Eden – good detective skills. I haven't read a Hemingway in awhile and I can usually read them pretty quickly. But I'm getting down to the less known ones at this point.

Blue Bloods is also pretty good, in a trashy-yet-can't-stop-reading way.
I haven't read any of the others.

Have booked the day on my calendar 🙂 Hemingway is one of my favourite writers. So took a guess 🙂 I have to choose a list of books for the read-a-thon now 🙂

I decided to do this Read-a-Thon tomorrow :o) I have a lot of stuff going on the rest of October, but I have no school and no work tomorrow, so it's perfect. I think it'll be fun :oD

I don't usually read in one sitting for more than a few hours, and I don't usually like starting a new book the same day as I've finished another one, so I don't know if it would be for me! Maybe I'll try and finish one book in one day and do some blogging or something? I'll definately be checking back to read your updates on it! 🙂

I've watched lots of read-a-thons take place in the book blogging world, and always thought about joining. You've inspired me this time – I will join you. :)Definitely could use the reading time, and my blog could use the posts. I doubt I'll be able to stay up all night, but I'll be as hard core as I can during the day. 🙂

Yay! So excited you'll be doing it too. I don't make it much past midnight these days so we'll see.
