As Vishy reminded me, I never actually posted anything on Shutter Island. I don’t think I have a whole review in me, so I’m just going to chat for a few minutes about it.
I read Shutter Island for my book club. It was our first meeting and we went and saw the film before discussing the book. Two members loved it, one didn’t really care for it, and I was somewhere in the middle. Shutter Island is not the type of book I generally read, but I was glad for the chance to read something different. And I liked it. I didn’t love it. I kept figuring out the twists shortly before they happened and I wish I had actually been surprised when they were announced. I should have written this up sooner because my mind is completely blank of any other thoughts and, strangely, so is my Shutter Island note on my iphone (that’s how I keep notes while reading). So I’m going to move on the the movie.
Shutter Island (the film) was remarkably similar to the book. I did think that the final “twist” was a little more obvious in the movie but it might also be because I had already read the book. I did like the little extra they added on to the end of the movie that made the conclusion a little clearer. I actually think I made a mistake by reading the book the day before I went and saw the movie. Although it was good, I actually started to doze off a little because I felt like I was doing the exact same thing I’d done the previous day. I don’t recommend that.

Nice review! While watching the Oscar ceremony today, I discovered that Martin Scorsese has directed ‘Shutter Island’! I didn’t know that! Sorry to know that you figured out most of the twists in the story, before you got to them. Maybe it is because the story is dated. Or maybe it is time for you to write a book 🙂

I find I sometimes get bored if I read the book right after watching the movie, or visa versa. I usually have to give it awhile. I’m looking forward to seeing the film and have the book on reserve at the library, but if they’re pretty similar I might wait awhile to read it.

I´m going to see the movie this week! Hope I don´t figure out the twists, although I already caught myself mentally going through the list of most used twists. I think it comes from reading too much 😉

Okay, that was one disappointing movie! The twist, if it can be called that, was so obvious! It was wearing tap shows as Lily Charles would say. I was waiting for the real twist and that never came 😦 No wonder you started to doze off!I did like the music and the setting though!

I thought it seemed obvious in the movie but since I’d read the book I couldn’t tell how obvious it was. But I kind of liked the overly dramatic music and acting that took place. As long as you don’t mind figuring it out, I actually think the movie is pretty good.

I got to see the movie version of ‘Shutter Island’ today. The twist was quite interesting for me and quite surprising too. The movie was also a bit scary, because it looked like it was possible to put a person in a particular environment and change his / her personality. One part of my mind still seems to doubt the twist in the end and looks for the more scarier explanation! Thanks for writing about this book and movie.
