My Newest Toy

When we bought our new mattress (a tempur-pedic that you know I’ve been gushing over if you follow me on twitter), it was part of a promotion that came with a free television. Only they didn’t actually give you the television – they gave you a gift card so you could buy a television. We don’t need any more tvs so we decided to use our gift card for a much needed camera upgrade.

At first I thought we might put in some of our own money and get a really nice DSLR camera. But then I realized that we don’t really know how to use one of those and we should probably stick to a point and shoot. The gift card was to a rather small South Florida chain so we were a little limited. Ultimately, we decided on a Sony CyberShot.

And so far, I am in love. I haven’t played with all the features yet, but let’s look at a few pictures, shall we?

Sweep Panorama Mode (like the Taylor Swift commercial):

Indian Rocks Beach

It had to be really small to fit on here, but trust me, it’s awesome.

Macro shots (I have never had a camera handle these well):

Spices
Brushes

Pet Mode:

Daisy
Gatsby

Beach Mode:

Indian Rocks Beach

Food Mode:

Popcorn

And finally, Book Mode (no there isn’t really a book mode, but I like taking pictures of my books):

Books

It’s also supposed to take great low light shots and I despise using a flash, but I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet. I’m super excited to have my new toy with me next week in New York for BEA.

So what do you guys think?

Love! I wish my camera had a panoramic mode! Hmm, maybe it does and I just haven’t found it. May have to do some camera exploration.

I think the panoramic sweep mode is unique to Sony. Other cameras have the panoramic lens. This one takes a video basically and then turns it into a photo.

I think the shots look great! The shot of your Gatsby reminded me of my kitty who was 17 when he passed away. Check out the pic if you have time:

    Don’t they look alike??

The look similar – only the opposite of each other. 🙂

I love these pictures!! I have an old CyberShot, about 4 years old, so I want a new one because I know they have much better features now. I think you just made the decision for me to get a new one 🙂

It looks like a good camera, the macro shots turned out great, I’d love to be able to get such a good result with mine.
I’ve been thinking about buying a DSLR camera for awhile and doing a course on using it, but you can get such good results with point and click cameras nowadays.

I was really impressed with the macro shots. That’s just me playing with it. I think I would love a DSLR camera if I knew how to use it, but I don’t need one now. 🙂

Your new camera looks cool – it also looks really slim! The pictures are wonderful! Your cats are so lovely! How many cats do you have? I am seeing only Kurt Vonnegut books on your bookshelf 🙂 Is he your most favourite author? 🙂

I have two cats. And the Vonnegut shelf was just the easiest to take a picture of. 🙂

Nice to know that. Cats are such beautiful and lovely animals, aren’t they? (and naughty too!) I had two kittens once. One of them was like Daisy – wide-eyed and innocent – while another was like Gatsby – curious about the world 🙂
