Thursday – Forgotten Treasure
Sure we’ve all read about Freedom and Mockingjay but we likely have a book we wish would get more attention by book bloggers, whether it’s a forgotten classic or under marketed contemporary fiction. This is your chance to tell the community why they should consider reading this book!
My recent reading life is so blogger-driven that I had a really hard time coming up with a book to feature today. Sure, some books I read are not as well known as some, but none of them seemed appropriate for this. So I’m taking you all the way back to October of 2007 when I was assigned a book for law school (don’t ask how this is law school appropriate) and fell in love.
Big Bang: The Origin of the Universe by Simon Singh

PS – I think this book might be the beginning of my attempt to explain to Ben how when we look far away we are looking back in time. I think he might finally understand it.

Thank you for pointing that book out to me. I love to read about such things as the Big Bang theory every once in a while, but I’m always afraid it will soon become too challenging for me.
Like you, I found it nearly impossible to think of a book that needed more love from bookbloggers.

I’m surprised at all the difficulty thinking of a book for today. Unfortunately (?) I was able to think of one right away. I read a great book a few months ago and plugged the title into the Book Blogger Search Engine to see what other people were saying, and it was, uh…. nothing.
Big Bang does sound interesting, and isn’t it so great when something you’re assigned to read is actually so enjoyable that don’t mind having to read it? I loved the (few) times that happened to me when I was still in college. 🙂

I recently read Origins by Neil deGrasse Tyson, which also dealt with the Big Bang, and I did enjoy that one. I haven’t heard of this book. I do love books about science, so I’m definitely going to have to read it at some point!

If I correctly understand your point, this is a (relatively) simple matter of space/time and one of the first (ok, maybe only ;-)) physics equations I ever committed to memory, distance = rate x time.
Sounds like a good one Michelle, I might have to give it a few hours of my life!

Thanks for writing about this book, Michelle! I haven’t read it yet and I will add it to my ‘TBR’ list. It was interesting that this book was assigned reading in law school 🙂 And I can totally understand your comment on looking back in time – when that realization hit me for the first time, that the night sky as we see it, is a picture of the past and we don’t know how it looks today, I was astounded!
