Happy Halloween! People are probably going to disown me for saying this, but I’m not really a fan of the holiday. I don’t like being scared, I don’t like the stress of planning a costume, and…did I mention I REALLY don’t like being scared? So I didn’t do anything Halloween related this weekend and I don’t plan on it today. Take that, people who like to jump out at me at haunted houses.
I do plan on reading today. I’d love to finish Betsy in Spite of Herself for two reasons: (1) I’d really like to finish the Maud Hart Lovelace Challenge and it ends today and (2) it would be my 10th book this month and I’ve never hit double digits in one month before (7 print, 3 audio).
So, onto the recap so that I can go read.

Halloween isn’t really a tradition in my country, so though I like the idea of it I feel no deep attachment to the holiday. Wishing a very non-scary Halloween 😛

I don’t like being scared either, but I do love dressing up in costume. We don’t get any trick or treaters in our neighborhood so I seem to get the best part (just dressing up for work).
Bill Bryson is so good; I hope you’re enjoying the audio book. Who is the narrator?

See, I actually like the trick or treaters. But we don’t really get any either.
Richard Matthews is the narrator. It’s a little strange since he’s British but he’s very good.

I’m not a big Halloween person either, haunted houses absolutely terrify me and I dislike the fact that if you are a woman the only “cute” costumes involve showing lots and lots of body parts. I much prefer happier holidays!

Re: Halloween – there’s some very excellent Halloween episodes that let writers do weird crazy things they would otherwise never do. For instance, Community turned everyone into flesh-craving zombies. Well, maybe Community would have done that, anyway.
But also, there are good creepy books that people have been reviewing or rereading, so that’s good? Nope, nothing about the holiday itself is really that great. I actually had a nightmare that I showed up at a party and didn’t have a costume and they didn’t let me stay. 😦

If I were to live in a country that celebrates Halloween it wouldn’t be a favourite of mine either. I don’t like being scared, like you. It is why I avoid all movies and books that might make me feel scared. Give me easter with the cute fluffy bunnies! (I do know easter is not about that, but I have been raised non-religiously)

I’m not a fan of Halloween either. Christmas is my holiday. I’m excited to start the Christmas festivities. I just bought The Maze Runner, I’ve heard a lot of great things about it. I must get through Shiver soon….Happy reading!

I totally loathe scary, but I love Halloween. It’s all the costumes. And the wonderful candy. So much fun to plan out what to wear and who to be.

I hate being scared too, but I do like Halloween. Which makes no sense because I don’t decorate the house, and I very rarely dress in costume. I dislike handing out candy because it seems that the average age of kids coming to the house is well into the teens these days and actually saying “trick or treat” seems to be a thing of the past. Today, in fact, we saw two adults – a mother and a grandmother – trick-or-treating while the kids were driven around the neighborhood in a car. Nice.
So, what exactly do I enjoy about the holiday? The candy, of course, and the creativity with the costumes. Some people astound me with the effort they put forth with their costumes. And who can resist a little one who can barely open their bag and has no idea what is going on?

I’m reading the Scorch Trials right now as well. I’m about half way through so it’ll probably take the rest of the week for me to get through it but I’m enjoying it. Good follow-up thus far.

So Michelle … I think I’m running into some troubles reading your blog. In that I have a HUGE LIST of books that I need to read! And not enough time! You make me excited to read each one and my list is oh-so-long. 🙂 Oh, and I can’t stand being scared too! Some of my brothers-in-law like to play “Alias” {and I love the show}, but being chased around the dark house with a flashlight … eeks!
