The Sunday Salon – 1.9.11

A couple of personal updates:

  • I posted about our anniversary yesterday so I wanted to share that it ended up being a lovely day. We spent much of it lounging about the apartment reading. We went to the library, got our new passport photos taken, and dropped by a pizza party at our complex (we had to make sure lunch was free since dinner was definitely not). Then went out for a nice, romantic dinner in the evening. And we finally had some warm-ish weather to enjoy. All in all, a great day.
  • The other big news in my life right now is that we will be spending almost a month in Europe this summer. We are starting in Greece for my cousin’s wedding and ending the trip in England where Ben will remain for 6 weeks for his grad school program. We plan on finding the most interesting route to take us from Greece to England. Neither of us have seen much of Europe so we feel very lucky that we’ll be able to do it now.

Are you reading anything interesting right now? Do you have any advice for out Europe trip? Just want to say hi?

I own many P G Wodehouse novels! Love those!

BTW, I have started a weekly feature on Sunday, Sharing Poetry With You, where I would be sharing any poem that has made an impact on my. It could be a classic one or a contemporary one, and anything in between. Today’s Sunday Salon is all about that. Do check out what poem I share today by clicking on Sunday Salon: Sharing Poetry With you. You are invited to give your thoughts on the poem posted. In one word or many words..

I am so jealous of your trip! My favorites: Florence, Italy; Vienna and Salzburg, Austria; Berlin, Germany; Lucerne, Switzerland; Amsterdam, Netherlands. I know they are obvious, but they have wonderful museums, lots of history, and gorgeous scenery

Wow! A month in Europe! Ok, I guess I see why you’re not going to BEA, lol. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Great House. I’m maybe a quarter of the way through it right now and am having very mixed, confused feelings about it!

I’ve only read 30 pages or so. I put it down awhile ago and haven’t picked it up yet. Gorgeous writing though.

That is wonderful Michelle! Hope you and Ben have a wonderful time in Europe! It sounds so awesome! I am feeling so jealous πŸ™‚

The books you are reading look quite interesting – I have ‘The Eyre Affair’ on my ‘TBR’ list. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

I was suspecting that, because I remember you posting a review of Fforde’s later book ‘Shades of Grey’. If you are re-reading it, it must be wonderfuler πŸ™‚ I will move it to the top of my ‘TBR’ list. Enjoy your re-read!

Italy and France are musts. Students get discounts for many things – make sure to ask. Museums, trains, most sightseeing things. Get tickets online in advance for as much as possible -museums get crowded and have lines in summer. Most of all enjoy the food!

Your Europe trip sounds so exciting! I hope you have lots of fun planning it. I haven’t seen much of Europe, but hubby and I went to Germany a couple years ago for our honeymoon and stayed in a castle for a couple nights and it was wonderful.

I’m glad you guys had such a great and relaxing anniversary πŸ™‚ And, as I already said, I’m so jealous you get to spend so much time in Europe! I’ve only been to Edinburgh (Scotland), but I’d recommend it for a day trip–maybe two days.

And I just saw that you have a Google Map of where you go in your books for the year. I love it! I have one on my blog’s sidebar, too πŸ™‚ I had no idea how my books kept me in certain parts of the US until the map showed me!
