The Sunday Salon – 1.16.11

The Sunday Salon.com

Good morning everyone. A quick update from me this morning as I am rushing to get ready between yoga and a birthday party (Happy First Birthday, Zen!).

I ran my first 5k yesterday: the St. Pete Beach Classic. It was very exciting and I actually did pretty well. My goal was simply to finish (with no walking) but I ended up with a time of just over 33 minutes. Which I think is great (I finished 26th out of the 42 people in my age group). My next goal is to run a sub 30-minute 5k. As of right now I hope to do this by the end of March. I have my new program and I’m ready to run. Anyone want to try it with me? [Erin? Michelle?]

I’m still in the middle of a few books. I started Anna and the French Kiss this weekend and I’m still reading Apollo’s Angels (very slowly), Great House (again, very slowly), and listening to the second Thursday Next book (I DNFed A Long Way Gone).

I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.

I skimmed your review of Great House and gathered that you were not a fan. I’m still at the beginning. I’ll let you know what I think.

Congrats on the 5K Michelle!! I have always wanted to do a 5K just to say I have but we’ll see if that ever happens…

The Couch to 5k program was great for me. I’ve never been a runner and it really got me going. And now I’m recommending it to everyone.

Great job on the race. I had to DNF a few this week myself. I am letting me off the hook this year.

Good for you. No sense reading books we don’t like.

Congratulations on your great time!! My first 5K, after having stopped training several weeks prior to that, I finished in 38 minutes. I definitely want to improve that. I really need to get started running again.

You’re going to be up for a 5.5 mile run while we’re visiting? Are you going to want me to go with you? 😉

Do the sub-30 plan with me! And then we can run the 5.5 miles together. 🙂

It is either that or a 10K. Either way should get me there by the end of February. This means I need to keep running, even if it is crappy weather. Sigh.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Great House. I had a hard time with it the first time around and almost want to re-read it. I think you are doing the right thing by taking your time with it.
