The Soundtrack to My Week

I do not feel like writing a review so I decided to do a quick music post instead of the radio silence that would have resulted. Because music is right up there with books in my life. And dancing. And dessert.

The five songs I can’t stop listening to this week (click the links to listen for free on Grooveshark):

  1. Skinny Love – Birdy (an amazing cover of the already amazing Bon Iver song)
  2. Rolling in the Deep – Adele
  3. My Body – Young the Giant
  4. Classic Cars – Bright Eyes
  5. The Chain – Ingrid Michaelson

It’s very strange. For the last few weeks, I have been CRAVING female vocalists (hence the Ingrid Michaelson and Adele obsessions of late). I generally listen to a lot of male singers so this is an interesting development.

Which songs are on repeat on your ipod these days? Any suggestions for me? I will love you forever if you recommend me good music.

I have just listened to “Skinny Love“! Great song. Thanks for the recommendation.

    This week’s favourites are:
Not the Same by Ben Folds
    Wake Up by Arcade Fire
America by Simon & Garfunkel (One of the songs that is usually among my week’s favourites!)
    Cemetery Gates by The Smiths
Fall Hard by Shout Out Louds (from their new album “Work”, which I like a lot.)
I always love your music posts. Joshua Radin and Frightened Rabbit were great suggestion in your 2010-favourite-post!

And list that has Arcade Fire in it is a win. 🙂

I’ll check out Shout Out Louds (I know the name but can’t think of any songs). Thanks!

I go through all kinds of phases like that. I got stuck on cello music for awhile. Couldn’t get enough of it.

Do you listen to Brandi Carlisle? She rocks my world. Start with The Story and go from there. I love Adele and Ingrid Michaelsen. I also have been obsessed with a Polish singer Goya for some time now, but that probably isn’t what you are looking for!

I know Brandi Carlisle but I can’t say I have listened to her much. Will check out The Story.

I was also just going to recommend Brandi Carlisle. She’s fantastic.

I’m also on a kick with The Civil Wars and Mumford and Sons. AWesome.

I am absolutely in love with Adele right now! Her voice is so unique compared to many female artists today. The entire album is awesome, and I’ve listened to it so much lately.

I’m in the mood for female singers with piano backgrounds as well 😉 Another favorite song of mine that fits that is Sarah Bereilles’s Gravity.

I have been listening to a lot of Death Cab For Cutie and The Smiths, but a band that I really love and can’t get enough of is The Silversun Pickups. They are totally amazing, and I wish they had more than two albums out. You might enjoy them. I so think that their second album was better than the first though.

Love Death Cab and The Smiths. I only know one Silversun Pickups song but I like it (it reminds me of Coheed and Cambria). Actually listening to more of their songs right now thanks to your comment.
