What a long, wonderful, funny, heartbreaking, hopeful, magical journey this has been. I am excited to see the final movie tonight, but I am also saddened by The End. We’ve faced The End before. In 2007, when the final book was released, I think there was a similar feeling. But we still had the movies to look forward to. So this End is a little more final (unless we count Pottermore).
I wish I could watch this final Harry Potter movie with my husband. We were also living apart when the final Harry Potter book was released (the time zones have favored him both times), so maybe it is fitting. Harry Potter has been a part of our relationship from the beginning – we started dating right around the time the first movie was released. As lame as that sounds, it’s true, and I think this is the first movie we won’t be seeing together (even when I was in California for the 5th movie, we waited until he visited to see it). I have some wonderful friends here who are braving the midnight showing with me and I am very thankful for that. And hopeful that they won’t judge the tears that are sure to come.
How do you feel about the final movie? Are you happy? Sad? Bittersweet? Relieved that this Harry Potter nonsense will finally be over? Baffled by the entire fascination? Let me know. I want to discuss Harry Potter one more time before it ends.

Definitely bittersweet. The movie was released in the Netherlands on the 13th, which meant I saw part 1 and 2 in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. And oh, I cried because of some things in the plot (you know, deaths and all that), but also because this was the end, I mean, the end a second time around. And I wanted to nod along to the people sitting behind me who went “Nooo, nooo, not yet!!” when the last shot of the trio at Hogwarts was on screen. So so so sad. But I was also very happy to have seen it, and I cannot wait to rewatch it at least 4 times in the upcoming month. (We have a monthly membership of the cinema, so I don’t pay per movie I go to see).

I’m pretty much devastated. I did go through some sadness with the last book, but then the kids and I listened to the entire series on audio last year, so that was a new experience. But this is it. I shall cry. Pottermore doesn’t count!

I am also sad, and wish that it didn’t have to end. I just wish there was somehow more, or maybe a promise of more later. My kids grew up on these books, and it’s sad that it is over. We still haven’t visited the park at Universal, so we still have that to look forward to, but yes, there is a little ache in my heard that Harry is absconding the scene. I think I am going to try to make it to the movie over the weekend, if I can, with the kids of course.

I can’t even tell you how sad I am that this era is finished 😦 I’m glad that you were still able to go to the midnight showing because it’s seriously the best time to go see the movie for die-hard fans. I sobbed like a baby (especially at certain parts) and I plan on seeing it again sometime this week/weekend so that I can see it when I’m slightly more awake and non-emotional 🙂

It’s definitely a bittersweet ending. I’m seeing the movie tonight and am excited to see how the last half of the book will be translated onscreen. But … it’s the end!
I’m thinking I should bring an entire kleenex box with me tonight. I’m going to be a mess.
