The Sunday Salon [1.20.13]

The Sunday Salon.com

Well, we experienced another first this weekend. Not only was this the first time Evan has been sick (other than a couple minor colds), we got to experience what it is like when the WHOLE family gets the same stomach bug at once. Let me tell you, it is not fun. There was a period yesterday where I physically couldn’t leave my bed, Evan was screaming, and poor Ben, who actually got hit the worst with this, had to rock him for hours. I’m starting to rethink the decision to live so far away from our parents.

We were actually supposed to be in Daytona this weekend for a conference, but when Evan woke up sick at 3:30am on Friday morning (when we were supposed to leave) we had to cancel. Thankfully, Evan and I feel better this morning. Though it is still mostly a let-the-baby-play-while-I-lay-on-the-couch kind of day so far. I guess this is life with a kid, huh? (Neither of us has had a stomach virus in our adult lives before this).

We’re supposed to have my aunt and her husband over this afternoon. They’re down from Maine and want to meet Evan. I am hoping we all feel up for it. We’re also supposed to go to a campfire birthday this evening. But I’m thinking smores are not in our future.

At least I have some good books going. I’m currently in the middle of Shades of Earth – the finale to the Across the Universe series. And I wish I had the time (and energy) to just race through it. I am also just finishing up The Emerald Atlas on audio. And I’ve started Kristina Riggle’s The Life You Imagined, but I haven’t made it that far since I got caught up in Shades of Earth.

We are also in the middle of the first season of Community and the first season of The West Wing (thank goodness we installed our new Roku box in the bedroom on Friday). So some good television kept us distracted, too.

So tell me something fun you did this weekend so I can live vicariously through you from the couch.

Oh, I had no idea you got sick as well! Oh man! 😦 I am so glad everyone is starting to feel better.

I also think the same thing about moving away from my parents. I desperately would like to live somewhere else just to experience living somewhere else (have always been a FL gal) but the thought of not having my parents there “just in case” always stops me.

I’m so sorry you guys are sick!! I think if I had a child I would seriously rethink my decision to live far away from our parents too. I can’t imagine what you’ve been going through this weekend. I hope you guys feel better soon.

My parents live down here in the winter, but naturally all hell breaks loose when they are NOT here. I’ve had times when I was so sick, I had to call my husband to come home because I literally could not care for my kids. At least now they can basically take care of themselves, save the driving, which is where friends come in handy. Once Evan gets in school, it is a good thing to get chummy with a few moms that can help you out. The crud has made its way through our family too, but I think we are on firm ground at the moment. We may go see a movie this afternoon.

I’m so glad this was at least a fairly quick bug! Daniel and I were sick last year while Brian was traveling and it was terrible. Now you have me terrified that we will all get sick while he is gone again and I will really be up a creek.

The good news of being on the upswing is a huge positive. I’ve laid on the couch and had babies and toddlers in the room with me, somewhat corraled and done some mindless things. I’ve never had the benefit of family near us, but we’ve managed. Everyone being sick is the pits!

I don’t know if it was exactly fun, but this morning I did rearrange our bookshelves, at least part of them. They’re a bit better than they were. I’ve also become addicted to Fables, the graphic novel series, and The Walking Dead, the TV series which is based on a graphic novel series by the same name.

That happened to us when my daughter was about a year old. SO not fun! I hope you are all feeling better and can get back to normal soon

I remember those moments where the whole family was sick at once and it’s so tough! I feel for you. I really do. All you want to do is drug yourself up and hit the sack (okay, maybe that’s just me) but you certainly can’t do that with a babe in the house. One ear is always listening for a cough or cry.

I hope you are doing a little bit better. Nothing worse than a little one being sick.
