The Sunday Salon [1.12.14]

The Sunday Salon.com

After a full week of blogging and even getting to some housekeeping tasks (I’m updating the About Me section and the menu options – more changes coming soon), I completely forgot to write a Sunday Salon. Two steps forward, one step back. Or something like that. So here it is a bit late on this Sunday morning.

Reading/Blogging

Currently reading:

  • Print:
    • Bellman & Black by Diane Setterfield (but thinking about putting it down…anyone want to convince me to stick with it?)
  • Audio:
    • The Circle by Dave Eggers

Just finished:

  • Audio:
    • The Dangerous Animals Club by Stephen Tobolosky

Tentative TBR:

  • Print:
    • Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau
    • The Pull of Gravity by Gae Polisner
    • Betsy and the Great World by Maud Hart Lovelace
  • Audio:
    • Elegy for Eddie by Jacqueline Winspear

Health:

I was good about exercise. I ran 3 times, went to yoga once and dance once, but I stopped counting calories on Wednesday and ended up gaining 1.1 pounds. I have once again learned my lesson that I still need to count calories if I want to lose these last few pounds. I also got bad about drinking my water. But I still haven’t had a diet coke!

This week is going to be tough. I have two happy hours, a catered dinner (and a breakfast and a lunch), and a pub crawl. And I have no idea when I am going to fit in my working out with this busy schedule. And Ben misread his class schedule so I can’t go to ballet for the foreseeable future unless I find a new class (I’m looking…). Yikes.

Other Stuff:

  • This week was our ninth wedding anniversary. Hard to believe (we WERE babies when we got married though).
  • Evan and I were featured in a BabyZone gallery showing what real moms look like post-childbirth (not sure I agree with the decision to label mine a “super quick labor” though).
  • I am going to start adding a second review on Thursdays. This review will be of books I read last year and never reviewed so it will probably be shorter than a normal review. I plan on doing this until I catch up (I like to post something about every book I read).

How was your week? Sticking with those resolutions?

No one seems to like Bellman & Black. Sometimes I think I should not pre-order books because if the reviews suck I take forever to read unless I am smart and read right away. I didn’t read anything right away last year, though. 😦

    Happy anniversary!

Yeah I haven’t heard many glowing things about B&B. It was high on my list but after hearing all the bad words, I changed my mind. Dieting and exercising is always a struggle it seems (and it probably will be until our kids are grown and gone). My husband is always lecturing to “pay yourself first”, so I try to make it a priority but it is hard. And Amen on the tracking calories. For me it is the only thing that really works and make me accountable.

You just go ahead and put Bellman and Black down. I give you permission. It was a big disappointment.

Aren’t new year’s the best?! I love resolutions and work hard to keep them. Sounds like you are too. Clever to put pub crawls on your list of resolves. 😉

Meanwhile, Kelly sent me here to strong arm you, but you know, I’m not the type. If you want to read all those other books before mine, be my guest. I won’t cry. Much.

    🙂

Thanks for sharing my title. Truly.

I have it from the library. Which should mean I actually read it soon!

Kelly would be proud of my tactics!

(Hope you enjoy it. 🙂 )

I like your captchas. This one has me bringing a piggy his cigar.

I didn’t mean to make year’s possessive. Writers can never let little typos lie. 😡

I didn’t really make resolutions, but I’m trying to be more consistent with my blogging. I’m impressed with all you do with a toddler!!

Happy Anniversary! Good job staying away from Diet Coke. I’ve been trying to do the same thing and, while I’ll occasionally have it if I’m out, I really do feel like I’ve lost the taste for it. I drink an iced coffee in the morning, seltzer throughout the day, and tea whenever I want.
