Summary:

The Yherajk, a peaceful alien race, are ready to introduce themselves to the humans. But they want to do it right. So they hire a Hollywood agent. The Yherajk may be Tom Stein’s most interesting client, but they are, surprisingly, not his most demanding. Tom must balance his new client with his existing one, while showing Joshua (the Yherajk living with him) around Earth.

My Thoughts:

This book was recommended to me by Bob at Guilded Earlobe, one of my most-trusted audiobook recommendation sources, after I mentioned enjoying my first John Scalzi book. A lot of people say that this is one of his weaker books, but Bob said it was his favorite. And I have to agree.

This book is entertaining, funny, heartwarming, and thought-provoking. There are flaws, sure. This was written early in Scalzi’s career. But it is an original idea and ends in a completely different place form where it started.

Audiobook Thoughts:

Wil Wheaton is always a fantastic narrator and he’s a perfect fit for Scalzi’s voice. Definitely listen to this one.

I recently bought a Scalzi book for my husband that I am thinking about nabbing, and this one sounds like it might make a perfect precursor to that one. I am really fascinated by the plot in this one, and can see how it would be really funny, and perhaps even poignant. I need to see if my library has this one in audio. Thanks for the great review and recommendation, Michelle!

I haven’t heard of this author before, but it definitely sounds like an original science fiction. Probably more to my liking, too! It sounds pretty funny. 🙂

After listening to Redshirts, I’ve been wanting to read/listen to more Scalzi. Of course, Wil Wheaton is always excellent as a narrator. I will definitely have to add this to my Audible wish list now!
