Special Topics in Calamity Physics

Special Topics in Calamity PhysicsI just finished Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl.  I loved it.  It was amazingly written – I can’t imagine how much work she put into it.  When I understood a reference, I felt very excited – it was like watching an episode of Gilmore Girls.  I enjoyed that things were still left up in the air at the end.  We had lots of explanation in the last 100 pages or so, but we still don’t know everything.  Blue reminded me of the narrators of The Thirteenth Tale and The Perks of Being a Wallflower – someone who usually sits back and watches (or more likely reads) life happening to others until something of significance finally happens to them.  I really enjoyed the book – I read the last 300 pages or so in the last 3 days because it was so interesting (and I am very bored).  I would def. recommend it (although most of you who read this have probably already read it).

I also learned that I cannot read 3 books at once.  From now on I will be alternating a real book and Harry Potter (unless of course I need to just stick to HP to be done by July 21).  I will also continue Reading Lolita at the same time (I know I can handle two books).  I think I’m up for a classic after I finish Chamber of Secrets, but I can’t decide which one…

Yay! I'm glad you liked it too! I'm going to start a book club thread very soon where we can post questions we'd like to ask Marisha, and then I'll compile them to send to her. So if you have any questions to ask keep your eyes peeled for that thread! 🙂
