Karou (that is not how I pictured the spelling) is an art student in Prague . But she has another life: errand girl to the chimera wishmonger Brimstone. She never knows when or where she might be sent or just what the teeth she collects are used for. Until Karou encounters an angel on one of her errands and her whole world changes.
Um, guys? Why didn’t you make me read this sooner? Oh, you tried? That’s right.
Well, I should have listened. There was very little about this I didn’t love. It was interesting – it’s full of seraphim and chimera and wishes and Prague and giant marionettes and magic portals and forbidden love so how could it NOT be interesting, right? And I just loved Karou.
And oh my goodness. That ending. So good. Almost Buffy Season 2 finale good (is anything that good?).
My only fault – just so this review doesn’t get too gushy – is that the story isn’t exactly linear but it isn’t really nonlinear either. It just jumps ahead once in awhile and then has to fill in those and it didn’t quite work for me. But perhaps that is the fault of my decision to listen to it rather than read the print.
This is my first time listening to Hvam (can you believe that?) and she was FABULOUS. Off to download book 2…
