Teaser Tuesday 8.31.10 -Ape House

“Isabel grasped the phone with both hands, her breath coming in short burts.
Her heart was racing so fast she thought she might faint.
She closed her eyes for a moment, and rocked back and forth.

“I’m listening,’ she said.”

Teaser Tuesday 8.10.10 – Dracula

“There was undoubtedly something, long and black, bending over the half-reclining white figure. I called in fright, ‘Lucy! Lucy!’ and something raised a head, and from where I was I could see a white face and red, gleaming eyes.”

Teaser Tuesday: Finny – 7.13.10

In honor of its publication day, today’s teaser is from Finny by Justin Kramon.

“Then Stanley would say, ‘Einstein,” in the way other people would say Amen at the end of prayers. The name was enough to command respect, dropped like a punctuation mark at the end of whatever point he was making.”

More from We Have Always Lived in the Castle [Teaser Tuesday]

NOTE: I appear to be in the middle of 3 books I have already done Teaser Tuesdays on and I am feeling helplessly behind on my May reading. So this week you get round two of Shirley Jackson.

“This Saturday morning I had apricot jam on my toast, and I thought of Constance making it and putting it away carefully for me to eat on some bright morning, never dreaming that a change would be coming before the jar was finished.”

Teaser Tuesday 5.4.2010

“I was pretending that I did not speak their language; on the moon we spoke a soft, liquid tongue, and sang in the starlight, looking down on the dead dried world; I was almost halfway past the fence.”

My Return to Teaser Tuesday

After some time away, I have decided to bring back Teaser Tuesday. Although this is one of the memes people said they could do without, I felt like I had lost a connection to all of my original online friends. Most of my friends from Rory’s Book Club and Vox have moved to greener blogging pastures like I have and now participate in Teaser Tuesday. It is something that continued to tie us together, but I didn’t really realize this until I stopped doing it and missed it. So here it is, back for good. And you may do with it what you will (even if that includes skimming right on past it).

“’Love will change you,’ Anna said.
Louisa shook her head. ‘Perhaps you, my dear. But not me. For me it is a disease I am lucky not to catch.’”

“Kenny and I never talked about it – even mentioned it – the old days.
I knew that to do so  would be to betray him all over again.”

Teaser Tuesday 3-9-2010

“I came home from that summer in Karachi and London – head swimming with the voices of a reconstructed past, full of a self-importance I couldn’t wait to share – only to find that my family had been busy arranging the future in my absence. Ameena’s future, at any rate.”

Teaser Tuesday 3-2-2010

“And as the week progressed the throbbing of my biological clock syncopated with my crepe anxiety until they formed one jazz rhythm. Because what if I got to the age of thirty without having learned to make a crepe? What would have been the point of this whole exercise then?”
